"First message to a couple or a woman: what to write"

How to start a conversation on a swinger dating site: what to write in a first message to a couple or a woman, what to avoid, and elegant examples.

21 October 2026 · 3 min read

On a swinger dating site, everything starts in writing. Your first message is your calling card: in a few lines it shows who you are, what you are looking for and, above all, the respect you have for the person reading it. Couples and women receive many messages, and most go unanswered because they are rushed, generic or out of place.

Before writing: read the profile carefully

A good first message proves you have read the profile. Note what the person or couple is looking for, the limits they mention, their preferences (meeting as a pair, nights out, chatting first) and their city. If the profile says they are not looking for single men, for example, respect that and do not write.

What to write in a first message

  • A friendly greeting, using the profile's name or nickname.
  • A personal detail from the profile that caught your eye: a trip, a taste, a line from the description.
  • A short introduction: who you are, your experience, what you are looking for, in two or three sentences.
  • An open question that invites a reply, without pressure.
  • A light, polite tone. Gentle humour works better than heavy compliments.

Example for a couple

"Hi Ana and Rui, I liked reading that you prefer to get to know people slowly, over a drink. We are a couple from Lisbon, new to the lifestyle and of the same mind. What made you take this step?"

Example for a woman

"Hi Marta, your description has a sense of humour that made me smile. I'm Pedro, I live in Porto and discretion matters a lot to me. What kind of conversation do you like to have before meeting someone?"

What to avoid at all costs

  • Copy-and-paste messages sent to dozens of profiles.
  • Comments about someone's body or explicit content in the first contact.
  • Unsolicited photos. Never. Consent applies to images too.
  • Immediate requests for a phone number, social media or a date.
  • Insistence: if there is no reply, do not resend the same message.

When writing to a couple, address both partners. Ignoring one of them is one of the most common and least appreciated mistakes. To brush up on lifestyle manners, read our guide to swinger etiquette and consent.

After the first reply

If the conversation flows, let it develop naturally. Ask questions, share in return, and only suggest meeting once you both feel confident. When that moment comes, our tips for meeting swingers safely for the first time will help.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a first message be?

Three to six sentences. Too short seems uninterested; too long can feel overwhelming.

How do I approach a couple without seeming pushy?

Show you read their profile, introduce yourself sincerely and end with an open question. Then wait patiently for a reply.

What if I get no reply?

That is normal. Profiles receive many messages and the chemistry is not always there. Don't take it personally and don't insist.

Can I send a photo in my first message?

No. Share photos only once trust is mutual, for example through a private album, and with the other person's agreement.
